Sweet Itch is a medical condition caused by your horse’s allergic response to the bites of Culicoides Midges and the black fly (Simulium). It is an equine hypersensitivity reaction which mainly affects horses and ponies from March through to November. It is the most common allergic skin disease in horses which gets worse as the horse gets older. The main symptoms include itching of the mane, base of the tail and under the belly; it is always best to get a diagnosis by your vet to be sure.
